Green (bass), Godflesh emerged from the tightly knit underground metal/grindcore scene of Birmingham, England, quickly blazing their own trail with genre-detonating early albums like Streetcleaner (), Pure (), Selfless () and Songs of Love and Hate () which proved immeasurably /5(17).

Production: Review: It takes a band with bravery and integrity to do what Godflesh did with their last failure of an album, "Songs of Love and Hate." SoLaH drifted in the alt-rock/industrial territory previously occupied by Fudge Tunnel and Pitch Shifter, and in doing so dulled the natural flair of this band and started the production of careerist rock music.

First Godflesh release to contain full lyrics in the booklet, as well as a studio drummer (Brian Mantia). "Circle of Shit" samples Gang Starr's "Speak Ya Clout". Contrary to popular belief, the album cover picture here and the one later on "Love and Hate in Dub" are not in the same location nor were they taken by the same photographer.
